August 2006
It's backwards. Deal with it.
August 31, 2006 - Thursday
In before end of the month!
The reason I've been quiet is because not much worthy of mention has happened. Here are the few things that are: Sphere 1.12 almost done, just gotta clean up the compile warnings and redo permissions (FAT32 made them vanish). And I suddenly realise that I don't like engineering.
I have some real plans for After Dark, and it's not going to look much like the original either. The old one was following the vein of The Secret of Cooey; the new Sphere version will look and play a lot more like Black Rhino. That is, four keys to move, four more to shoot in each of the cardinal directions. I have more detailed plans than that, but it's late.
This site needs a revamp. Now I'm convinced it's not so much design-wise as it is a dynamic backend. I learn a bit more about SQL with each passing day, almost enough to be able to write a PHP page that queries an SQL database and displays the results. If I learn enough about AJAX, I may even be able to create the chatbox such that it will update without reloading the page. How about that!
But for now, I panic as I drown in assignments up to my ears. Ta!

I come bearing gifts! Yeah, I took it upon myself to get Sphere working on my Linux box. Not only did I get it working, I also:
- made it work with the latest SpiderMonkey JS libs
- repaired Linux key handling
- implemented the scale2x and scale3x video render options for Linux
- fixed F10 so toggling between fullscreen/windowed modes works again
Here it is: Sphere 1.12 source! I hope that this is the revival of the project everybody's been waiting for. Naturally, you'll need all the usual libs, plus scons to build it all.
Sphere works in Linux. That's nothing new. But now it should build in Linux without a bazillion errors the first time through.
What? You wanted to hear about my personal life? Drama queens. :P
PS: Watch Battlestar Galactica.
August 02, 2006 - Wednesday
July 31 and no birthday post from me? Bah, I'm slipping.
At long last, I'm finally getting around to learning how to construct and use SQL queries. Heh, I know how to pic my uni courses to keep them interesting. Using C in the advanced software constuction class as well, but I've known it since I began programming. Only this time, I get to use it in a practical context. Yay!
As I've probably implied, uni's catching up with me, which is a shame because I've got a few good ideas that I'd like to work on. Yep, always with the ideas. I won't reveal them because they may not float. I'll just keep on sketching then.
O SHI- almost forgot! Battlestar Galactica is back on Australian TV!!! Come Wednesday 11:00 PM (tonight) the second season of this critically-acclaimed science fiction series will finally be aired. Of course, being the sort of guy that likes to stay in the loop, BSG's third season is already due for October over in the states. Laggy networks are laaaaaaaaaggy. It got a good write-up in the episode review in my TV guide. Of course, it's consistently gotten this sort of treatment, not just from the guides, and it's well-earned.
Watch this series. It's not like anything you've ever experienced.
