Not posting from an Eee PC ;_;

... because no stores seem to be stocking one that matches these specs:

  1. Asus Eee PC 901,
  2. with Linux (screw Windows and its anti-hacking regime),
  3. that's white (gloss finish == fingerprints on black surfaces).

Having contacted a few stores around the Sydney area, apparently netbooks matching these specs should arrive in "one or two weeks." I don't know whether they're telling the truth, or if that's just retail-speak for "we don't know, but we don't want to lose your patronage."

I'd settle for the Windows XP version, stripping out WinXP for Ubuntu of course, but then I lose 4 GB worth of storage, and when the thing starts off with 20 GB in the first place (4 + 16 GB solid-state drives), every GB counts.

I could also opt for the 900, but it uses the Intel Celeron M at 900 MHz, which apparently runs hot and has some off-power battery issues, if the forums are to be trusted.

Anyway, I guess I'll be bunkering down for a while. I know there are new models coming out just about every fortnight (like the 900A/903 and so on and so forth), but the 901 Linux seems to be the tiny dynamo I'm after, with the form factor to boot.

I'll huddle up in a corner, hugging my knees quietly, rising occasionally to check the Eee PC user forums, until Australia gets its act together.
